Ao redor do açaí tecem-se embates que ultrapassam o fruto e tocam o próprio sentido da vida humana e natural na Amazônia. Around the açaí, tensions arise that go beyond the fruit itself — they reach into the very meaning of human and natural life in the Amazon.

De um lado, os saberes e afetos dos caboclos ribeirinhos, que veem na natureza uma extensão das relações de parentesco e reciprocidade. On one side, the riverine peoples’ wisdom and affections, who see nature as an extension of kinship and reciprocity.

De outro, o poder do Estado, com suas instituições de pesquisa, controle e vigilância — EMBRAPA, ANVISA, Receita Federal — e seus bancos de fomento. On another, the power of the State, with its research, control, and surveillance institutions — EMBRAPA, ANVISA, the Federal Revenue, and development banks.

E, mais recentemente, as “novas instituições” globalizadas, que certificam, auditam e regulam, impondo padrões e valores que muitas vezes deslocam o poder soberano das populações amazônicas. And more recently, the rise of globalized “new institutions”, which certify, audit, and regulate — often displacing the sovereign power of Amazonian peoples.

🍇 O açaí, nesse cenário, torna-se símbolo de uma luta mais ampla: entre o mundo da vida e o mundo do lucro. 🍇 In this context, açaí becomes a symbol of a larger struggle: between the world of life and the world of profit.

A mercantilização da floresta, a privatização do Estado e a expropriação de saberes locais intensificam uma cisão entre o humano e o natural, ameaçando as bases de convivência que sustentam o estuário amazônico. The commodification of the forest, the privatization of the State, and the expropriation of local knowledge deepen a split between the human and the natural, threatening the foundations of coexistence in the Amazon estuary.

Mas o Códice “Sabor Açaí”, na voz poética de João Gomes e Nilson Chaves, revela outra narrativa: o açaí como entidade viva, andrógina, sagrada e generosa. A canção transforma o alimento em mito, o fruto em sangue, o beneficiamento em ritual. The song transforms food into myth, fruit into blood, and processing into ritual.

Nela, o açaí não é mercadoria — é dom, sacrifício e comunhão entre humanos e não humanos. In it, açaí is not a commodity — it is gift, sacrifice, and communion between humans and non-humans.

💬 Falar do açaí é, portanto, falar de resistência, de cosmologias que sobrevivem à colonialidade, e de outros modos de habitar o mundo. 💬 To speak of açaí is to speak of resistance, of cosmologies that survive coloniality, and of other ways of inhabiting the world.
